How long does it take to get my results?

Results are typically available within 6–8 weeks from the time your sample arrives at our laboratory.

What is an ancestry test?

An ancestry test provides insight into the regions and populations around the world that contribute to your genetic background.
This is different from genealogy testing, which identifies and connects you with biological relatives and family trees. Please note that BioCertica does not currently offer genealogy testing.

Can I get a PDF copy of my results?

Due to the large amount of data included in your DNA results, a PDF report would be extremely large and difficult to navigate effectively.
Our mobile app is designed to provide a more user-friendly experience, allowing you to explore your results more easily and securely. In addition, the app offers enhanced data security compared to downloadable PDF documents.

What if I want my own practitioner to review my results?

If you would like your existing healthcare practitioner to review your results, they can register on the BioCertica Practitioner Portal. Once registered, they will be able to securely access and interpret your results.
They can sign up here: BioCertica Practitioner Portal
If they require any assistance during the process, our team will be happy to help.

What happens to my DNA sample?

We are a privacy-first platform committed to protecting your genetic data through secure digital identity systems.
All genetic processing is conducted entirely within South Africa using our own laboratory equipment and personnel. Our tracking system monitors your sample from the moment your kit is manufactured, throughout the laboratory process, and until your results are securely delivered to your mobile app. This ensures the integrity, security, and chain of custody of your sample at every stage.
Once your DNA has been processed and digitised into encrypted genetic data, your physical DNA sample is securely destroyed. Your encrypted data is then stored in our secure cloud infrastructure using our proprietary security systems.
You remain in control of who can access your data through our end-to-end encrypted network of accredited BioCertica partners who comply with our strict data privacy policies.
This commitment to privacy and security is also why we do not provide PDF reports or send genetic results via email. If you would like more information about our data policies, we would be happy to arrange a call with our team.

How do I delete my account?

Although we’d be sad to see you go, we fully respect your right to privacy and data control. When you delete your account, your personal data is permanently anonymised.
To delete your account through the mobile app:
1. Log in to the BioCertica mobile app
2. Navigate to Vault > Account Settings
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account
Please note that account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

How do I collect my sample?

The test kit includes simple instructions for a saliva sample collected at home. No needles, no appointments. You'll find step-by-step guidance in the app and our how-to videos.
